The new BCU 4 Star award now encompasses a leadership module. This will entitle holders to lead competent others in exposed open inland water and on grade 2 rivers. We envisage this pathway being more appropriate for many people who do not wish to be involved in coaching but who still wish to take others paddling.

A 2 day practical assessment under the new BCU syllabus of your ability to paddle safely and effectively whilst leading a competent group in moderate, coastal sea conditions. This award is a prerequisite for 5 Star Sea. Please note that if you trained under the old scheme you may not have covered all the required elements. BCU Canoe/Kayak Safety Test £60
This one day course is designed to provide safety awareness and rescue training for flat water situations. This test is a pre-requisite for BCU Level 1 and 2 coaching awards.
PLEASE NOTE: To the best of our knowledge this award will continue to be accepted for the new coaching awards although we anticipate that increasing numbers of trainees will undergo the new Foundation Safety Award which is coming out early in 2008. We are likely therefore, to cease offering this course except on request.

This course covers the essential safety and rescue skills for whitewater paddlers. It is useful for all river paddlers and is now also a prerequisite for the new BCU 4 star kayak and canoe training and assessment courses.
The BCU will shortly introduce a new advanced WWSR course which will be the prerequisite for 5 Star inland awards. As with 1st aid qualifications, the intention is that these will need to be renewed every 3 years.
The BCU is shortly to introduce an Advanced WWSR course which will be a prerequisite for 5 star inland disciplines. This will cover more technical rescues and difficult access situations.

This exciting and very practical course ran for the first time in 2006 as an additional A Level standard qualification for 6th form age students and adults alike. Building on the success of this we intend to offer it again, with minor modifications, and we are also considering running the certificate and/or diploma courses as well. If you want to experience a remote adventure journey in stunning surroundings this is just the trip for you. Assynt is probably the only area in Britain where it is possible to travel in wild country by canoe for an extended period of time generally without seeing anyone else at all! Majestic Torridonian mountains tower above you, rising fortress like from the heather below. Everyone should do this at least once! Choose to paddle tandem or solo depending on your experience. An advanced navigation and seamanship course for those who wish to take the Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate.
Tues eves 7-10pm for 15 weeks excluding 28th Oct, Plus all day Sat 31st Jan. Starts 30th Sept 2008.

Dallam has run over a dozen extended sea kayak expeditions to some of the most stunning parts of the British coast. We always choose new venues, including a stunning trip to Shetland, and seek to provide clients with a self sufficient, adventure journey far from the madding crowd.

Please note, these trips are open to any reasonable fit person who can paddle a kayak. They are not high performance or coaching courses and you dont need to be an expert. Cost includes transport, equipment and instruction, though not any ferries or accommodation.

This one weekend per month course is designed to provide a regular fix of mountain activity for people who find it difficult to escape during the week. The course will be extremely practical, focusing on mountain walking and rock climbing with a small amount of caving.
There is no coursework.
