    o Long trousers
    o T-shirt
    o Warm jumper or fleece
    o Underwear
    o And footwear.

Important Note:
Please ensure that the above equipment is brought to every activity day – we may have to
finish an activity early if children are not sufficiently equipped. Please do not bring any cameras, mobile phones or other electrical/delicate items. We cannot guarantee their safety or security. If you need to contact your child you may do so through the Duty Manager at Dallam Outdoors.

  • Will there be an opportunity for parents/carers to meet the staff?
    • There will be an introductory meeting at 9.00am (for approx ½ hour) each Monday
(or the first day of your course if a different day) in the lecture theatre at the Heversham site with the Duty Manager. All parents and carers are asked to attend. The lecture theatre is 50m opposite the car park entrance.
  • What are the day’s timings?
    • All courses start at 9.00am. Before this time staff are very busy preparing for the
day and are not available to supervise children, therefore please do not arrive
before 8.50am. Children should be collected promptly at 5.00pm.
  • Is it possible for me to accompany my child on the course?
    • The courses are specifically designed for children and are run to tight staffing ratios.
It is not possible to accommodate parents/carers in any capacity during the day.
  • Will my child do all the activities outlined in the brochure?
    • We will make every effort to fulfil the advertised course, however due to the varied
nature of the environments in which we work and a wide range of factors, such as
weather, which are beyond our control, it may be necessary to alter programmes at
      short notice.
  • Where shall I park at Heversham?
    • If you are bringing children by car please park only in the car park opposite the school. Please take great care crossing the road, it will be very busy. Please do not park on the roadside or drive onto the school site as it causes a serious obstruction to us and the local residents – whose goodwill is vital to us.
  • What shall I do if my child is going to be absent?
    • Please ensure that you phone us directly on 015395 65961 so that we can inform the relevant staff.
  • Are my child’s belongings covered by the school’s insurance?
    • Our insurance does not cover loss, damage or theft of personal items whilst attending a course or whilst in a minibus. Please ensure valuables are not brought. Lost property will be held at the Heversham site until September.
  • Is it possible for my child to bring a mobile phone?
    • A: Mobile phones and other electronics are not allowed. Each member of staff will have a mobile phone and will contact the centre if necessary. We wish to remind you that we expect your child/children to behave responsibly at all times. If behaviour is found to be unsuitable, then your child/children may be excluded from activities and no refunds will be given. It is also critical that no information about individual children is withheld from us that may compromise our ability to look after them and their peers effectively; all information will remain confidential.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at Dallam Outdoors on 015395 65961 should you require any further information.

What are the pre-requisites for this course?

The pre-requisites for each course are different so please check the detailed course information sheets to find out what the requirements are for that specific course.

Do you do a student/oap/other discount?

We do a discount for students on our full-time courses but not external students. We aim to keep our prices as affordable as possible for everybody, rather than giving a discount to a small number of people. However, if you book several places on a course we may be able to give a discount. Please contact the office for details.

Where are you based?

What is the Course Code?

The Course Code helps us to book you onto the right course. However, if you cannot find the Course Code please include on the booking form the exact dates and the title of the course you would like to do. This will make sure that your enrollment is processed quickly and easily.

Do I need a consent form for my child?

Yes, every person needs a consent form. Those over 18 are allowed to complete their own forms but for children under the age of 18 a parent or guardian must complete the consent form on their behalf. There can be no exceptions to this and a child who does not have a completed consent form will not be able to participate in outdoor activities. Please click here to download a form.

How can I cancel a course / What is your refund policy?

For adult courses our refund policy is as follows:

Due to high staff/student ratios and the highly disruptive effect of late withdrawals, any course cancelled within 30 days of the start will incur loss of fees.  If you have any concerns regarding your ability to participate in a course on which you have enrolled we strongly advise you to take out appropriate insurance. Dallam is not in a position to indemnify clients against any illness, injury or other misfortune which may affect attendance.  If a course has to be cancelled by the centre a full refund will be given.

For children’s activity weeks our refunds policy is as follows:

Transferring a child to another course is subject to availability of spaces and a £15 administration charge. Transfers between children are not allowed: a cancellation and a new booking must be made. Refunds will be made on cancellations, less a £15 administration fee, up to 28 days prior to the start of the activity week. Cancellation requests received within 28 days of the start of the course will be refunded, less a £15 administration fee, if the place can be filled by another booking.

Can I pay in instalments?

Please contact the office to discuss whether your course is payable in instalments. For short courses this is not usually possible but we will try and accommodate your needs.

Can I come in and meet someone?

You are very welcome to come and visit but it is best to make an appointment as our staff are busy instructors and are likely to be out during the day. If you telephone to make an appointment we will be able to tell you when somebody will be free to have a chat and show you around. For academic courses an interview appointment is mandatory.

Are your courses suitable for children?

Not all of our courses are aimed at children; we run an action-packed adventure week programme in the school holidays during Easter, May half term, Summer and October half term. Click here for more information.

What equipment do I need to bring and what can I borrow from you?

Each course has a different kit list so please have a look at the detailed course information to see what you need to bring for your course. You can view and/or print some specific kit lists from the selection below. Dallam has an enormous range of equipment for use and normally you will not need much more than your personal clothes and lunch. Please note that for some assessment courses you are required to bring your own equipment, regardless of whether Dallam has the kit you need.

Can I design my own course?

You certainly can! Please contact us with your requirements and we will be able to provide a competitive quote.

Will I be too old for this course?

There is no upwards age limit for our courses, as long as you have a reasonable level of fitness and agility you will be fine. Please contact us if you have any concerns.

I am worried about fitting into a kayak.

If you are concerned about fitting into some of our smaller boats (sea kayaks and ‘playboat’ kayaks in particular) then please arrange to come and try a few boats out. The shape of the boats does restrict some people from sitting comfortably and, although we have a wide range of differently sized boats, we cannot guarantee that we will have something to fit you. If you have any doubt please make an appointment to visit.

Can you invoice my company?

We can issue invoices for adult courses but there are serious limitations if you choose to pay in this way:

  • Your place on the course is not guaranteed until we have received the payment.
  • You have no right to transfer or cancellation if you choose this payment method.

If it is possible we would prefer you personally to pay for your course and then be reimbursed by your company. We apologise that we have to be so strict in this matter but we have had to adapt our policy due to a few recent incidents.

Can you come to me to deliver the course?

Yes we can come to your centre/venue to provide a course. Please contact the centre for more information.
