Steve Pugh - Centre Manager
Steve has been involved in the outdoors since his teenage years, initially as a enthusiastic cyclist, mountain biker and climber. After a very successful career in marketing he chose a change of lifestyle and moved to the Lake District. Steve now spends as much time in a boat or down a cave, as he does on a bike or at the crag.
Central to Steve's educational philosophy is encouragement of independent learning; he encourages his students to go off and do amazing things for themselves.
Steve has recently led a mountain bike trip to Nepal and has climbed and biked in a variety of locations in Europe, America and the UK.
Hannah Stevenson - Administrator and Instructor
I am an ex-Dallam student, having successfully completed both the Access to Outdoor Education and the NCFE Certificate for the Oudoor Industry courses. I had a fantastic time on both of the courses and jumped at the chance to work for the Centre. I now balance my office life with some Instructing, particularly on the Children's courses when it's warm outside! When it is cold I enjoy pub quizzing and swotting up.
Robin Andrews - Instructor
I have been a keen climber and mountaineer for nearly fifty years now! There is still nothing I like better than a day out walking in the Lake District, or a climbing trip away with friends. Over the course of a career in Outdoor Education I have qualified as an MIC and Mountain Guide, and I work on Dallam's Mountain Leader and Single Pitch Award Training and Assessment courses. In my spare time I play the harmonica, which should give me something to do when my knees pack up completely!

Rob Blackwell - Instructor
I have been hillwalking and climbing since 1975. Since being a student at Dallam I have also wanted to find time for caving, canoeing and sea kayaking. I am pleased to work here as it lets me pass on my skills and enthusiasm – I am always working towards making myself redundant! I previously worked as a geologist and usually have something to talk about outdoors if anyone is foolish enough to ask! When I have spare time (and remaining energy), I go for a walk / paddle / climb / cave…
Katy Boreham - Instructor
I did Dallam’s NCFE course during my gap year, which was fantastically enjoyable as well as giving me the opportunity to learn valuable skills. Since then I’ve been studying geography at Durham University, and have been able to share my passion for the outdoors through working on Dallam’s children’s programmes each summer.
In my free time I try and fit in as many adventures as possible. From exploring city wildernesses, to packing as much as (shouldn’t be) possible on my back for a few nights’ camping: not having a car only makes things more exciting!
Miles Bradshaw - Instructor
Mark Caseley - Instructor At an early age I was always exploring the natural environment around me. My love of the outdoors has led me to explore mountains, rivers and underground. I hold a variety of outdoor qualifications which allows me to get paid while I get to explore! I also have a BSc in Outdoor Studies from St Martins College and a PGD in Outdoor Education from Edinburgh University. My ‘proper’ job is teaching Outdoor Education in a secondary school in Rotherham, but I still can’t resist ‘working’ outdoors in my holidays!

Adam Marcinowicz - Instructor
Hi i'm Adam and I have been involved with instructing in the outdoors since leaving university in 2003. I have a vast array of experience accross a range of disciplines. I have been involved with Dallam Outdoors since 2006 when I completed the Access to Outdoor Education course. This has left me in good stead to work all over the world with my qualifications, from leading expeditions to mountains such as Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua to Adventure Training the UAE army in Dubai. I have spent my last 3 summers working on the Dallam Outdoors Summer Activity Weeks as I love working in the outdoors and sharing my enthusiasm with others. In my spare time I pursue my interests in the outdoors by entering Adventure Races and have been fortunate enough to compete at the highest level in the World Championships in Portugal during 2009.
Sean Mc Grath - Instructor
Alec Nelson - Instructor
Ian Olham - Instructor I am a keen climber and mountaineer and have worked on Dallam's ML and SPA training and assessment courses since 2003. I became a full-time instructor in 1987 and have led groups in a wide range of activities, including caving canoeing and skiing. As a fluent speaker of French and German I have enjoyed many trips to the Alps over the years, but my favourite place of all is the West coast of Scotland.
Jo Roberts - Instructor
I have been working in the outdoor industry since 1998 and have been fortunate to work in some wonderful places with some very inspirational people. After doing my teacher training I set up the BTEC at Dallam Outdoors but the lure of the Scottish Highlands whisked me away. I am now back in the Lakes and currently work part time on Dallam’s NCFE and BTEC courses. I started off life as a climber but have diversified into sea kayaking, caving and expeditioning. So much to do, so little time …
